Take this Portugieser Yacht Club Chronograph, for example: Combining the smooth 1930s aesthetics of the Portugieser collection with the funkier, utilitarian bent of the Yacht Club models of the 1960s and ‘70s, it’s an amalgam of so many things that Schaffhausen-based brand does well.

Housed in a 44.6mm stainless steel case with a sapphire crystal, a signed crown, and a polished bezel, it features a luminous satin silver dial with applied blued-steel ‘Arabic’ indices, a matching ‘feuille’ handset, and a matching stainless steel bracelet with a signed push-button deployant clasp.

Powering this complex chrono is IWC's in-house Calibre 89361 automatic winding movement. With a 68-hour power reserve and 38 jewels, it consists of a whopping 299 components — which shouldn’t surprise you, considering this movement features flyback capability. (There’s no need to stop and reset the chronograph when it’s engaged — simply reset it, and the seconds hand will ‘fly back’ to zero and begin counting anew.)
